The frame fits the event: At the Brisant CityBerby between Hertha BSC and Union Berlin, the Olympic Stadium has been completely full for the first time for more than two years. It’s about a lot.
Floodlight, 74,667 spectators, blue against red: Everything is arranged for the game of the year in Berlin, the derby fever has also packed Felix Magath.
“Finally again full hut, finally the right football atmosphere – on such a game you can only be happy,” said the Hertha trainer enthusiably and looked at the duel against city trival Union Berlin.
In the “special game”, as Magath called the game against the Köpenicker on Saturday evening (18:30 clock) in the sold-out Olympic Stadium, it crackles against tension. For the Berlin Bundesliga club is not just about prestige: Hertha BSC fights against the threatening descent, and Union wants all power in the European Cup. The question of the current number one in the capital is clarified anyway.
“Union is the favorite, no question,” said Magath. After the victories in the first leg (2: 0) and in the Cup Octagonal Final (3: 2), Union could celebrate the “Derby Hattrick” this season. “I did not mind about it,” Trainer Urs Fischer said, “But three points in the account for the final bill – I would like that.”
Fischer warned of the acting on Magath under Magath. He has been able to recognize “a certain handwriting” from the past two games, but no uncertainty. “The knowledge what it’s about,” said the Swiss: “It becomes a fighting game with two teams who really do nothing.”
Magath asks for support of the fans
Magath, who admitted to be “nervous” in front of the derby, relies on the mood in the first time since the outbreak of the corona pandemic completely filled Olympic Stadium. “Of course I ask for support from the fans,” said the 68-year-old. Managing Director Fredi Bobic also believes that players “push from the spectators”. He does not fear the opposite effect: “Anyone who is afraid has missed the profession.”
But the Unioners are also looking forward to the atmosphere in the full concrete bowl, especially as 15,000 fans of the Iron. “At least for me it’s a bit unfamiliar,” Fischer said, “I have not experienced that yet, many of my boys have not yet.”
The Unioners have internally put a new seasonal goal: Europe. You want to “try to come to five, six,” said Fischer. Also over the DFB Cup, where in the semi-final RB Leipzig the opponent is, the club can create the leap into the international business.
Hertha BSC hopes on “mood listen”
From this goal, city trival Hertha is located despite the many millions of Investor Lars Windhorst miles, as a table top last threatens the direct descent.
“We have to collect points as soon as possible to make our situation friendlier,” called Magath. A derby victory could be “a very big mood skin”, so bobic, “but for that you have to pull Ackern and at the end the thing too.”
Personnel has to renounce Union on the last-patient goalkeeper Andreas Luthe and the locked Paul Jaeckel. At Hertha, Torwart Alexander Schwolow is not available.
